Delhi Shops & Establishment Amendment Act 2026 Notification
The President has given an ascent on the Amendment Bill on 23rd Feb 2026 and the notification has been issued on 11th March 2026. The Key Amendments in the Delhi Shops & Establishment Act are as follows:
- 1) The Act will now be applicable to establishments having 20 or more employees.
- 2) Maximum working hours limit has been increased to 10 hours from 9 hours, including the interval for rest.
- 3) Maximum weekly working hours increased to 60 hours, subject to the condition that it should not exceed more than 144 hours in any quarter.
- 4) Continuous working hours without a break have been increased to 6 hours from the earlier limit of 5 hours.
- 5) Women employees are now allowed to work between 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM during the summer season between 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM during the winter season with prior written consent, subject to the condition that the employer will provide adequate CCTV surveillance, security, proper transport facilities, and adhere to the Maternity & POSH Act.
